Hello –
Please be advised that if you are a current user of Global Word and have recently upgraded to Macintosh OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), you are likely experiencing compatibility issues. We’re aware of this; please note that the fixes to this are not easy and may still be several weeks away. At the same time, we’re trying to decide if we stop support altogether for Macintosh OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and perform a massive overhaul of some issues that have bothered us for a long time (like overall speed and inconvenience of updating the dictionary).
Please bear with us as we sort through these issues. If you are new to the Mac or new to Global Word and have 10.6, consider delaying your free 30-day evaluation of this software until these issues have been resolved. A blog post will be created when the new version is available; you may submit this is a bug or feature request on this website if you have specific comments to share regarding compatibility.
We’re sorry for the delay, and thanks for understanding.

Greetings –
As you know, Global Word’s primary dictionary is based on the CC-CEDICT Project. Recently, this incredible dictionary surpassed the 60,000 entry milestone, and so now has Global Word. With the very latest release today, Global Word now contains 60,000 Chinese words, allowing it to rival most Chinese-English Dictionaries that you’ll find in your every day bookstore. Even better, Global Word’s dictionary is constantly being updated with very new terminology, including such favorites as “Starbucks” or even “Harry Potter”!
To celebrate this 60,000 milestone, I have given you a simple way to contribute to the CC-CEDICT (and hence Global Word) dictionary. Now, simply click “Global Word” then “Add to or Edit Dictionary” to see the CC-CEDICT Project’s main submission web form. You can cut-and-paste directly from Global Word into this form. All submissions are taken under review and if deemed accurate, added to the CC-CEDICT database … and then as part of a future release of Global Word.
The primary window for contributing to the dictionary (from within Global Word) looks like this:

I look forward to hearing your comments on this latest release! If you already have a copy of Global Word, it’s easy to get the new dictionary and features. Simply click “Global Word” then “Check for Updates…” to see if you need the latest, free upgrade.
Enjoy!

Happy New Year!
To celebrate The Year of the Rat, I am proud to announce several new features to Global Word, my Chinese Dictionary for the Macintosh, as well as a special sale price to kick-off the new year!
First, let’s talk features. Thanks to the good folks over at Meebo, I have embedded a Study Room within Global Word. Now, from within Global Word, simply click “View” then “Show Study Room” to enter the Study Room. No user name, and no password is necessary! From within this window, you will see any other Global Word users who happen to be using the application. Have a question about the Chinese language? Are you a native Mandarin speaker wondering how to say something in English? How about a student trying to get ready for an exam? Why not use the new Global Word Study Room! Here is a screenshot of the room in action …

I look forward to chatting with everyone personally!
Second, I have added some new searching capabilities. In my own study of Chinese, I have found it really handy to learn multiple words that begin with the same character. So, now you may simply click the search window triangle, type in a character, and all words that begin and end with that character will be displayed. Also, you may now type in many characters at once, and Global Word will translate each individual character for you in that phrase. I am still working to improve these features, but I wanted to get them to you and hear your feedback. I hope they help you learn the language and find definitions faster than ever before. I’ll blog more about these features later.
Finally, in celebration of the New Year, I have decided to lower my Global Word price for an entire month! You may now purchase Global Word for $12.95, and, as always, simple upgrades like the ones I describe above will always be free! You can purchase Global Word simply and easily right through the application, so why not download it today and see if you like it?
Happy New Year!
